WAABI Wednesday - 10-21-09
Happy Wednesday, Everyone!
We’ve had a busy week up here in Minnesota. Last Wednesday, we had our first General Membership Meeting. Joe Vierkandt was our highlighted speaker. He spoke on the following:
• What the 3 road tests are for impaired driving (standing on 1 foot, reciting the alphabet and the walk & turn)
• How much the fines and fees are for different levels of OWI/DWI
• What the long term legal ramifications are for having an OWI/DWI on your record (mainly insurance)Joe was also kind enough to bring with the “Beer Goggle” kit. Each Beer Goggle had a different BCA (blood alcohol content) level that looked like old shop glasses. Two volunteers went up front and attempted to pass the road tests. It was a humorous-yet sobering-experience to see what over indulgence can do to a person.
This past Sunday, a group met to clean up a local highway. Luckily, this weekend was snow-free. The group only had to deal with gusting winds.
This year, Minnesota WAABI is setting up boxes at different locations to collect donations for care packages to send to troops overseas. A list of most wanted items was sent out to all members in the past newsletter.
Jeanie Kusie announced a Membership Contest that runs through December. Every new member and the recruiter will be entered into 2 separate $100 drawings. A nice way to earn extra Christmas money. Every person you recruit is another step closer to an easy $100!
Hope everyone has a safe rest of the week!
