An update on Minnesota WAABI’s holiday activities: MN WAABI shopped for residents of Grand Avenue Rest Home, a long term nursing facility, and purchased holiday gifts for all 20 residents of the home. On December 2nd, WAABI brought gifts and treats to the Home and enjoyed our time together with the residents singing Christmas carols & enjoying coffee & cookies. The residents were thrilled with their gifts that ranged from denture cream & mouth wash to purses and slippers. We also did our shopping for the three Sky Ranch boys assigned to our chapter and got their treasures off in the mail to them. We wish all of the boys at Sky Ranch a very happy holiday season! Minnesota WAABI is registered on the Minnesota Military Family Care Initiative website as a volunteer network willing to help families who’s loved ones are serving our country overseas. I received a call from Kathy Reuben, whose husband Paul Reuben, a former MN police officer, who was kidnapped in Iraq a year ago. Kathy requested any holiday cheer WAABI could help bring her twin 17 year old daughters this holiday season. Gift certificates and some holiday gifts have been purchased (and delivered to) this entire family all in the name of WAABI. Paul Reuben’s fate is still unknown and Kathy said very little information is given to them. Please keep all of these families, from the young teens struggling - to the elderly and the suffering, in your hearts and prayers this holiday season and remember to count and cherish your own blessings. |

Hello and Happy WAABI Wednesday to All! As Jill Hawkins brought to our attention, the Federal Trade Commission has designated September 10-15 as National “We Don't Serve Teens Week”. The Century Council is looking to WAABI, and other associations, to partner with them to publicize the We Don't Serve Teens campaign throughout September. As teens across the nation head back to school, this is a great way for WAABI to showcase its leadership in the community. By working together with the Century Council and FTC we can help raise awareness on the dangers of underage drinking. It is up to us to help bring this message to the local level. Everything you need to execute this – from logos & banners to sample letters and press releases - are right at your fingertips on the Century Council website. http://www.centurycouncil.org/wdstweek/ and Materials can be ordered via email request to

It is important that we, as WAABI members, show our ability to be industry leaders by having each of our chapters participate in the We Don't Serve Teens Week.
In other news, Congratulations and a big thank you to Stephanie Flannery and the Tri-State Chapter for submitting letters to the editors of the Cincinnati Post and Dayton Business Journal as well as some other local publications. I trust other chapters are working on doing the same.
Also in September, don’t forget to mark your calendars for the 12th Annual WAABI Golf Classic Charity Event September 28-29, 2007 in Bardstown, Kentucky. The Bardstown WAABI chapter is working hard to prepare for another unprecedented event this year. Registrations are due by this Friday, 8/31 so please get your registrations in or contact Tobin Thomas for a form:
